Steny Hoyer, a seasoned member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 5th district, recently addressed concerns related to a tragic collision near Washington D.C.’s Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA). Through a series of tweets, Hoyer expressed his condolences and outlined steps being taken in response to the incident.

On January 31, 2025, Hoyer conveyed his sorrow regarding the involvement of Southern Maryland residents in the collision. He stated: “I am deeply saddened to learn residents from Southern Maryland were among the victims of the collision near DCA on Wednesday night.” Hoyer assured that his office is actively monitoring the situation and extended his thoughts to the affected families and community.

In another tweet posted later that day, Hoyer emphasized safety measures in light of the incident: “In the wake of the collision on Wednesday evening, we aim to diminish further risk of both civilian and militant lives in the airspace above our region.”

Additionally, Hoyer announced collaboration with fellow members of the National Capital Delegation. He tweeted: “I joined the National Capital Delegation in writing to the @DeptofDefense to urge for an extended halt to Army helicopter training flights in the airspace & safety review on future military helicopter training near DCA.” This initiative seeks an extended pause on military training flights pending a comprehensive safety review.
