Steny Hoyer, a longtime U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 5th district, has recently posted a series of statements on his official Twitter account addressing national and local issues.

On November 19, 2025, Hoyer commented on former President Donald Trump’s recent pardons related to the January 6 Capitol attack: “Trump has pardoned another one of his co-conspirators in the insurrection & attempted overthrow of the U.S. Congress. Pardoning Dan Wilson & roughly 1,500 people convicted of crimes related to Jan. 6 reinforces his mission to sanitize the reality of that terrible day & ensure”.

In a post dated November 20, 2025, Hoyer highlighted the importance of federal support for Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay: “The Chesapeake Bay is the beating heart of Maryland as it is central to our state geographically, economically & culturally. It is critical that we reach the full potential of federal support for the Bay & its watershed. Team Maryland will continue working to restore the Bay &”.

Later that same day, he addressed economic concerns following delays in government reporting: “The September Jobs Report — which was released 7 weeks late due to the Republican shutdown — does little to dispel the job market’s weak showing this past summer. Trump’s policies continue to diminish job creation, increase costs for working families, & generate economic”.

Hoyer has served in Congress since 1981 after replacing Gladys Spellman and previously held positions in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature. Born in New York City in 1939 and currently residing in Mechanicsville, Hoyer holds degrees from University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law Center.
