Steny Hoyer, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 5th district since 1981, recently addressed several issues affecting federal workers, law enforcement, and the environment in a series of posts on his social media account.
On March 16, 2026, Hoyer highlighted the importance of labor rights for government employees: “Collective bargaining is the strongest tool workers have to create a fair workplace, and the restoration of these rights is a huge win for federal workers & our veterans. I thank @AFGENational for their commitment to civil servants. We’ll keep working to counter the Admin’s”.
The following day, March 17, he expressed gratitude toward Capitol Police officers: “Every day, U.S. Capitol Police officers work to protect our Congress from threats within and outside of the Capitol. We must ensure they have the support they need to continue keeping Members, staff, and visitors safe & informed. I thank USCP for their courage and service to our”.
On March 18, Hoyer drew attention to environmental concerns in Maryland: “The Chesapeake Bay is the beating heart of Maryland, and invasive blue catfish threaten the very ecosystems and communities that the watershed sustains. I was proud to join @RepSarahElfreth and Rep. @RobWittman on the MAWS Act and help secure passage of this vital legislation to”.
Hoyer has represented Maryland’s 5th District in Congress since replacing Gladys Spellman in 1981. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature between 1967 and 1975. Born in New York City in 1939 and currently residing in Mechanicsville at age 83, Hoyer holds degrees from both University of Maryland (BA) and Georgetown University Law Center (JD).
