Steny Hoyer, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 5th district, addressed several topics in a series of posts on his social media account between October 2 and October 3, 2025.

On October 2, Hoyer extended wishes to the Jewish community as Yom Kippur concluded, stating: “As Yom Kippur comes to a close this evening, I wish that all within the Jewish community had a meaningful day of atonement. G’mar Chatima Tova.”

The following day, he criticized actions by OMB Director Vought regarding energy and infrastructure projects. On October 3, Hoyer wrote: “OMB Director Vought’s move to terminate lawfully approved energy & infrastructure projects sends a clear message to Americans: You’re On Your Own. Team Maryland is working to maintain these investments & lower costs for working families across our state.”

Later on October 3, Hoyer commented on the absence of a September jobs report and its implications for working families. He stated: “The absence of a September jobs report comes as Republicans are raising health care premiums & costs and giving tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy. Despite the lack of data, Republicans’ message to working families is clear: You’re On Your Own.”

Hoyer has served in Congress since 1981 after replacing Gladys Spellman and represents Maryland’s 5th District. He previously held positions in both the Maryland House of Representatives and State Senate from 1967 to 1975. Born in New York City in 1939, Hoyer resides in Mechanicsville and holds degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park (BA) and Georgetown University Law Center (JD).
