Steny Hoyer, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 5th district since 1981, recently shared his thoughts on various pressing issues through social media. Hoyer, who was born in New York City in 1939 and holds degrees from the University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law Center, has been an active political figure for decades.
On June 1, 2025, Hoyer expressed his reflections during Pride Month by acknowledging the “courage and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community.” He emphasized that while much progress has been made, there are still significant challenges ahead. Hoyer urged unity to continue fighting for civil rights and against discrimination across America. “During this Pride Month, I am celebrating and reflecting on the courage and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community. Much has been accomplished, and much is in peril – we must stand together to continue to fight for civil rights and against discrimination across America.”
Later that day, on June 2, 2025, Hoyer addressed a tragic event at the Boulder Run for Their Lives event. He described his horror at learning about a terror attack that occurred during this event held in support of hostages kidnapped on October 7. He condemned this act as a “display of violence & antisemitism,” stating it poses danger to Jews globally. “I am horrified by the news of a terror attack at the Boulder Run for Their Lives event tonight in support of the hostages kidnapped on Oct. 7. This display of violence & antisemitism is unacceptable and endangers Jews in America, Israel, & around the world. I am monitoring this”
In a subsequent message posted shortly after midnight on June 2, Hoyer called for concerted efforts to eliminate hate and antisemitism from politics. He warned that such divisive elements pose threats to everyone involved. “We must work tirelessly to remove the cancer of hate and antisemitism from our body politic. It threatens us all.”
