Steny Hoyer, a veteran U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 5th district, has addressed several matters of local and university concern through tweets made on March 26, 2025.

Reflecting on a tragic event, Hoyer noted, “A year ago today, Maryland was put to the test when the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed. As we continue to mourn the six Marylanders that were lost in the collapse that night, Team Maryland remains focused on completing the replacement of the bridge & supporting the workers.” This tweet underscores the ongoing efforts to recover from the incident.

Later that day, Hoyer tweeted after a memorial event, stating, “I joined state, federal, and local leaders in Baltimore today to honor the memory of those we lost one year ago in the devastating collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. I commend the brave first responders for their recovery & rebuilding efforts at the Port, & my prayers.” Hoyer paid respect and extended gratitude to those involved in the response efforts.

In a separate engagement, Hoyer shared his interaction with a university leader, commenting, “It is always great to meet with my friend @President_Pines. I thank him for his leadership to ensure @UofMaryland remains a top university in our nation. I look forward to our continued our work together to support students, staff, & the entire UMD community. Go Terps!” This tweet highlights Hoyer’s continued engagement with the University of Maryland.
