Steny Hoyer, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 5th district since 1981, recently commented on key national issues via his social media account.

On January 9, 2026, Hoyer highlighted a legislative achievement by House Democrats regarding healthcare: “Yesterday, House Democrats ushered in a tremendous victory & passed legislation that would extend critical #ACA tax credits to protect access to affordable health care premiums. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to act swiftly to restore this lifeline for millions of”.

Later that day, he addressed economic concerns in light of the newly released jobs data: “With the release of the #DecemberJobsReport this morning, the results are in: 2025 was the worst year for U.S. job growth since 2020. Trump said America was poised for an economic boom, but with 4.4% unemployment & only 584,000 jobs added last year, the numbers suggest we’re”.

In another post on January 9, Hoyer reflected on a significant anniversary: “This week we recognized 15 years since the tragic shooting in Tucson that killed 6 Arizonians, injured 13, & nearly claimed the life of my former colleague, @GabbyGiffords. Her determination in overcoming that adversity continues to inspire us all. I stand with Gabby & everyone”.

Steny Hoyer has represented Maryland’s 5th District since replacing Gladys Spellman in Congress in 1981 and previously served both in the Maryland State Senate and House of Representatives. He holds degrees from University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law Center and resides in Mechanicsville.
