Steny Hoyer, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 5th district, has voiced his opinions on various current issues through a series of tweets. Hoyer has served in Congress since 1981 and previously held positions in the Maryland House of Representatives and State Senate.

On March 7, 2025, Hoyer criticized former President Trump’s proposal to reduce the workforce at the Department of Veterans Affairs by over 80,000 employees. He stated that “Trump’s plan to purge 80,000+ employees from @DeptVetAffairs would devastate the vital services Americans, especially those who served our nation on the front lines, rely on.” He emphasized the importance of ensuring veterans receive necessary care and benefits.

Later that day, Hoyer commented on recent economic data in another tweet. He highlighted that “Today’s #JobsReport reveals 151,000 jobs were added to the economy last month – a continuation of record growth under the Biden Administration.” However, he warned that Trump’s policies could threaten this progress.

In his final tweet on March 7th, Hoyer reflected on historical civil rights events. He urged continued efforts to protect civil rights advancements by stating: “As we reflect on the events of Bloody Sunday, let us recommit to building on the progress we’ve made over the years and continue to use Good Trouble against efforts to undermine the civil rights protections John and so many others fought for.”
