Steny Hoyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 5th district since 1981, has been vocally active on social media regarding significant national and international matters. In his April 15, 2025, tweets, he addressed the ongoing situation in Ukraine and issues related to the United States’ tax policies.

On April 15, 2025, Hoyer emphasized the importance of U.S. support for Ukraine in a tweet stating, “The United States must continue providing aid to our allies in Ukraine to ensure its survival and deal Russia a definitive strategic defeat.” Hoyer expressed his commitment to collaborate with Rep. Gregory Meeks and other legislators in introducing legislation aimed at supporting Ukraine in its efforts to defend democracy.

On the same date, Hoyer turned his attention to domestic fiscal matters, criticizing the previous administration’s tax policies. He tweeted, “This #TaxDay, let’s remember that the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress have made it harder for working Americans to file their taxes and easier for the wealthiest tax cheats to get out of paying their fair share. THREAD:” which highlights his concerns about the impact of specific policies on working Americans and tax fairness.

Furthermore, Hoyer underscored ongoing issues with the Internal Revenue Service’s enforcement capabilities in a continuation of the previous tweet posted at the exact time. He mentioned, “Meanwhile, Republicans continue their assault on the IRS’s enforcement budget. Even though studies indicate $1 invested in examining tax returns for millionaires yields $12 in federal revenue, the agency has been desperately understaffed and underfunded for decades.” This statement highlights Hoyer’s concern about insufficient IRS resources and its potential repercussions on tax revenue collection.

Additional information about Hoyer includes his long tenure in Congress. Hoyer has been representing Maryland’s 5th district since 1981, succeeding previous Congress member Gladys Spellman, and has also served in the Maryland State Senate.
