Steny Hoyer, a long-serving U.S. Congressman for Maryland’s 5th district, has recently shared a series of tweets reflecting on diverse matters ranging from international bereavement to domestic policy and environmental concerns. Representing Maryland since 1981, Hoyer provides insights on current events and policy shifts.

On April 21, 2025, Hoyer expressed his condolences to members of the Catholic community mourning the passing of Pope Francis. In his tweet, he stated, “I send my deepest condolences to those in the Catholic Church mourning the loss of Pope Francis today. May we all cherish his memory and embody his commitment to justice, compassion, and humanitarianism.”

Later that same day, Hoyer commented on former President Donald Trump’s policy reinstatement. He noted, “As promised in his radical Project 2025 agenda, Donald Trump is reinstating his ‘Schedule F’ policy. Here’s what that means for federal workers and the services they provide: https://t.co/3yvOWGDolZ” Schedule F was a classification that Trump initially introduced during his presidency, targeting federal workers.

On April 22, 2025, Hoyer turned his attention to environmental issues. In his Earth Day message, he stated, “This Earth Day, let us recommit to fighting the ongoing climate crisis that threatens our beautiful communities. I will keep working to secure investments that prioritize environmental justice and boost climate resilience throughout #MD05 and across the country.”

As a distinguished public servant, Hoyer has been a prominent figure in Congress, having succeeded Gladys Spellman in 1981. Born in New York City, Hoyer has dedicated the majority of his political career to representing Maryland’s 5th District.
