Steny Hoyer, a longtime U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 5th district, posted a series of messages on March 25, 2026, reflecting on his service and highlighting ongoing initiatives in the state.
In an early evening post, Hoyer stated: “It has been a tremendous honor to serve the state I am grateful to call home in public office. Today and every day I am proud to celebrate and advocate on behalf of the Marylanders that make our state so special. Happy Maryland Day to all!” (March 25, 2026).
Later that evening, he addressed federal employment policies under recent administrations: “OPM has been instrumental in Trump & Vought’s efforts to replace thousands of nonpartisan federal employees with political loyalists. Federal workers swear their loyalty to the Constitution, not to the President. I’ll keep fighting to end the Administration’s crusade against the” (March 25, 2026).
In another post that night, Hoyer discussed local infrastructure improvements: “Great to join the celebration for the exciting upgrades at St. Mary’s County Regional Airport. I thank the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County and the Maryland Department of Public Works & Transportation for their partnership and work to implement these federal investments for” (March 25, 2026).
Steny Hoyer has represented Maryland’s 5th District in Congress since replacing Gladys Spellman in 1981. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both chambers of Maryland’s legislature from 1967 through 1975. Born in New York City in 1939 and now residing in Mechanicsville, Hoyer holds degrees from University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law Center.
