Steny Hoyer, a seasoned member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 5th district since 1981, has been vocal on several key issues through his recent social media posts. Hoyer, who resides in Mechanicsville and boasts an extensive political career starting from the Maryland State Senate, shared insights into regional development, federal workforce compensation, and scientific leadership.

On December 10, 2024, Hoyer emphasized the importance of Washington D.C. to his constituency in Southern Maryland and Prince George’s County. He advocated for granting statehood to D.C., stating that it is “the heart of our region” and that this step would ensure its continued success. “As the Congressman from Southern Maryland and Prince George’s County, I can tell you that D.C. is the heart of our region. I believe that the best way to ensure the continued success of our region is to grant D.C. statehood.”

The following day, on December 11, 2024, Hoyer joined forces with Virginia Senators in urging President Biden to implement a pay raise for federal employees. Later on December 11th, Hoyer attended an event with Dr. Makenzie Lystrup at NASA Goddard organized by the Space Transportation Association.
