Steny Hoyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 5th district since 1981, has raised concerns on social media regarding the Trump Administration’s plan to move the FBI headquarters and emphasized the importance of upholding constitutional principles.
On January 14, 2026, Hoyer posted on his Twitter account: “It’s Congress’ duty to ensure required security standards are followed before considering a proposed move of the FBI headquarters.
I’m deeply concerned that the Trump Admin’s plan to move the FBI to the Reagan Building contradicts multiple federal laws and the intent of Congress”.
The following day, he shared a post with a link but no additional comment: “https://t.co/KdJwJlTP2T” (January 15, 2026).
Also on January 15, Hoyer addressed judicial independence by stating: “It is critical that we follow the Constitution and ensure our judiciary remains independent so that we can continue to have ‘a nation of laws, not of men.’ https://t.co/MAO3JI3OlF”.
Steny Hoyer succeeded Gladys Spellman in Congress in 1981 and has served continuously since then. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he was active in state politics as a member of both the Maryland House of Representatives and State Senate from 1967 to 1975. Hoyer was born in New York City in 1939 and currently resides in Mechanicsville. He holds degrees from University of Maryland, College Park (BA) and Georgetown University Law Center (JD), which he earned in 1966.
