Analysis: Maryland has the third highest foreclosure rate for first quarter

One in 385 properties in Maryland started the foreclosure process during the first quarter of the year, according to an ATTOM Data Solutions analysis of property data.

It was the third highest foreclosure rate among U.S. states and the District of Columbia.

The data shows 6,286 Maryland properties with a foreclosure filing during the first three months of 2018. The state has more than 2.4 million housing units. The foreclosure rate in the state is down 7.42 percent from the end of 2017 and down 25.64 percent from a year ago.

In the U.S., 189,870 properties started the foreclosure process in the first quarter – a 4 percent increase over the fourth quarter of 2017 and a 19 percent decrease from this time last year.
