Maryland Department of Natural Resources issued the following announcement on Oct. 18.
Visitors to Fort Frederick State Park in Washington County can experience the lighter side of the French and Indian War during an annual living history event 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 27 and 28.
Members of the recreated Joshua and Alexander Beall’s Company and Maryland Militia will bring the fort to life so visitors can enjoy a ‘pleasant diversion’ of period activities and games.
Highlights include cricket, fencing, foot races, a colonial-era fashion show and making of Jack-o-lanterns.
“This program gives our visitors a chance to take part in some 18th century amusement,” Maryland Park Service Ranger Rob Ambrose said. “They will have the opportunity to play games, and see the effects of a musket fired at target.”
Each day visitors of all ages will be able to play with games and toys of the era as well as try their hand at games popular in 18th century taverns. Saturday at 7 p.m., the park will host a campfire program celebrating Guy Fawkes/Bonfire night, a traditional English celebration.
Food, gift, and souvenir items will be available for sale at Captain Wort’s Sutler Shop. For more information, please call 301-842-2155.
