The Takoma Park 4th of July Parade organizers announced on Apr. 2 that they are now accepting entries and grant applications for the 2026 parade, inviting creative, artistic, or unconventional ideas under the theme “Weird and Wonderful.”

The annual event is seeking new participants who can contribute something unique to the tradition, aiming to enhance the distinctive character of the parade. Organizers encourage anyone with a fresh idea—whether it is artistic, funky, or unexpected—to apply for a grant to help bring their vision to life.

Interested individuals or groups are asked to submit an informal one- to two-page proposal by email. While priority will be given to proposals received by April 30, applications submitted after this date may still be considered if resources allow.

Eligibility is open to all: individuals as well as any kind of group—including friends, families, or organizations—regardless of residency in Takoma Park. Those who have previously received grants may also apply provided their proposal introduces a new concept not seen in past parades. Accepted entries must participate as a group during the event scheduled for July 4 from 10:00am until 11:30am.

Parade entries can take many forms such as floats, vehicles, walking groups, cyclists or other creative displays. The aim is for each entry to embody the spirit of creativity that has defined previous celebrations.

More information about participation guidelines and application instructions can be found on the Takoma Park 4th of July Parade’s website.
