The City of Takoma Park announced on Mar. 20 that it will offer a series of free bike repair pop-up events at several locations in the community throughout April and May.

The initiative aims to make bicycle maintenance more accessible for residents by providing basic repairs and adjustments at no cost. Organizers say the service is designed to encourage cycling as a mode of transportation and recreation in Takoma Park.

At each event, a bike mechanic will be available onsite to perform brake adjustments, derailleur adjustments, lubrication, and tire inflation for free. If replacement parts such as brake pads, cables, tubes, or chains are needed, they can be purchased at the event. The city will cover the installation costs for any parts bought during these sessions. However, organizers note that no parts will be sold during the Earth Day Celebration.

The pop-ups are scheduled at multiple venues: during the Earth Day Celebration on Sunday, April 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; at Takoma Farmers Market (by the bike rack) on Sundays—April 26; May 3, 10, 17 and 24—from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; and at Crossroads Farmers Market on Wednesdays—April 29; May 6, 13, 20 and 27—from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. An additional session will take place on Bike to Work Day (at Sligo Creek Trail location) on Thursday, May 15 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with registration available online.

These events reflect ongoing efforts by Takoma Park officials to support sustainable transportation options while promoting community engagement through local activities.
