The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) track and field teams recorded 18 top-five finishes at the East Carolina Bill Carson Invitational, according to a statement released on Mar. 30.
The results reflect strong performances by both men’s and women’s teams as they continue their outdoor season. The meet took place at the Bate Foundation Track & Field Facility from March 27 to March 28.
On the women’s side, junior jumper Lyee Simms won the high jump with a mark of 1.60 meters. Other notable performances included Jamayla Stansbury finishing fourth in the 100 meters, Lynzi Evans placing third in the 100-meter hurdles and second in another heat of hurdles, Rihanna Gayle taking third in the 400 meters, Boluwatito Ogundairo finishing fourth in that event, Dakota Hickman earning third in high jump, Jonysha Prucien securing second place in triple jump, and a fifth-place finish for Evans, Tayla Wilson, Prucien, and Stansbury in the women’s relay.
For UMES men’s results, athletes took top spots in both the men’s 110 meter hurdles and men’s 4 x 400 meter relay events. Additional highlights included personal bests and podium placements across several races: second place in the men’s 200 meters with a personal best time of 21.16 seconds; third place finishes for both the men’s 400 meters (48.88 seconds) and men’s1500 meters (3:53.52 personal best); fourth place for men’s400-meter hurdles (57.55 seconds); third for men’s5000 meters (15:07.16); and second for another group competing in a separate heat of the men’s4 x400 meter relay (3:21.64).
The next scheduled competition for UMES is set to take place at Norfolk State Invitational on April 3–4.
