Maryland Department of Commerce issued the following announcement on May 23.
26 Maryland Companies Receive ExportMD Grants
Maryland Commerce program helps companies promote goods, services globally
The Maryland Department of Commerce has awarded 26 small and mid-sized Maryland companies with ExportMD grants to help promote their products and services in the global marketplace. The ExportMD grant program helps businesses finance the costs of marketing internationally, including trade show fees, brochures and travel expenses. Applications are accepted on a monthly basis and the next application deadline is June 1, 2018. Eligibility requirements can be found on the Commerce website.
“The ExportMD program has been one of Maryland’s most successful business assistance initiatives, helping hundreds of companies connect with new global customers and attend international trade shows where they can promote their goods and services,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “From providing financial assistance to helping companies navigate doing business in foreign countries, the ExportMD program helps small and mid-sized Maryland companies explore new international markets.”
“When we consider that more than 90 percent of the world’s customers are outside the U.S., it is critical that businesses of all sizes consider expanding to global markets to increase their competitive edge,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Mike Gill. “The ExportMD program is a great starting point for companies looking to expand their customer base.”
Among the companies included in this round of ExportMD grants is RBtec, a leading manufacturer of fence protection and perimeter security solutions. The company used its grant by traveling with the Maryland delegation in April to Expo Seguridad, and hopes to continue growing its services in Latin America as a result.
“This very successful trip would not have happened without the encouragement and support of Maryland Commerce and the ExportMD program,” said Dori Ribak, vice president of sales and marketing at RBtec. “Having this assistance allowed us to minimize the risk of entering a new territory, where we hope to grow for years to come. Our trip made it clear how much potential business Mexico has to offer—that’s something we would not have seen without meeting the people and the market.”
Established in 1999, the ExportMD program provides matching grants up to $6,000 as well as up to 40 hours of marketing consulting from Commerce’s Office of International Investment and Trade. ExportMD is funded in part through a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration, which has awarded multiple State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) grants to Maryland Commerce to help fund the program.
