Genbusiness009

Maryland Department of Commerce issued the following announcement on June 4.

Maryland Commerce Leads Delegation to InfoSec Europe 2018 Conference

Trade mission builds on international relationships, MOU with U.K.’s Midlands region

The Maryland Department of Commerce will lead a delegation to Infosecurity Europe 2018 in London June 5-7, 2018. The conference, Europe’s leading information security conference, attracts more than 19,500 attendees from across the globe. Maryland’s delegation includes bwtech@umbc, a business incubator focused on information security, as well as South River Technologies in Annapolis; Baltimore-based Phalanx Secure Solutions and Terbium Labs, A1Logic in Bethesda, Untethered Labs in College Park, Bricata and Silent Circle in Columbia, Sepio Systems in Gaithersburg, Cybrary in Greenbelt, Glacier Security in Odenton, and Rockville-based Cryptonite and Inky.

“Our international trade missions, our partnership with Midlands Engine, and our participation in InfoSec Europe 2017 have spurred global interest in innovations and technologies coming out of Maryland’s cyber sector,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Mike Gill. “Attending InfoSec again this year is an opportunity to build on that foundation, encourage European companies to explore a Maryland location, and open international opportunities for Maryland’s cyber companies.”

During the London visit, Midlands Engine will host the Maryland delegation at a dinner to celebrate the signing last year of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Maryland Commerce. The MOU is intended to strengthen the relationship between Maryland and the Midlands region, a premier cybersecurity cluster in the U.K. As part of the agreement, Maryland hosted U.K. cyber companies in October and Midlands Engine hosted Maryland cyber companies at InfoSec Europe 2017.

Maryland’s participation in InfoSec Europe is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to promote the state as the center of research, innovation, and opportunity in cybersecurity in the U.S. and abroad; to encourage U.K. cyber companies to consider a Maryland location; and to open international markets for Maryland companies. Three companies in Maryland’s delegation – Cybrary and Silent Circle in Columbia and Terbium Labs in Baltimore – were recently named to Cybersecurity Ventures’ 2018 Cybersecurity 500 list. The annual list, which includes 14 Maryland cybersecurity companies, recognizes the hottest and most innovative companies in the world.

“We’re very pleased to be bringing this delegation to InfoSec Europe,” said Ken McCreedy, Maryland Commerce’s senior director of cybersecurity and aerospace. “Along with bwtech@umbc, these companies showcase the talent and technology in Maryland’s robust cyber sector. They’re outstanding representatives for our state and for the cybersecurity industry.”
