MARYLAND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: “Veterans In The Workplace” Event Wednesday, April 24 At Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium In Annapolis

Hireveterans

Maryland Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on March 25.

Each year, over 200,000 service members return to civilian life, creating a large pool of talent and experience often overlooked by employers seeking to add to their workforce. On Wednesday, April 24, the Maryland Chamber, as part of its “Maryland Spotlight” series, will bring together military personnel, employers, educational institutions and workforce development professionals to discuss ways to identify, attract and fill in-demand positions with qualified veterans.

The keynote speaker for the program will be Dr. Norvell Coots, President & CEO, Holy Cross Health. His topic is “One Health System’s Approach to Supporting Our Veterans.” He will explain the ways their Military and Veterans Health Program has benefited his company’s business and community. As part of the program, Dr. Coots will talk about how the staff at Holy Cross Health is trained to help understand and respond to health concerns and challenges specific to the military community and their commitment to providing respectful and culturally competent health care services.

Many businesses often aren’t aware of how many veterans they employ. It is imperative to identify these employees and ensure their transition into the civilian workplace is successful and will yield positive results for businesses long-term. Maryland Spotlight: Veterans in the Workplace will address ways in which to recognize these individuals and equip your business with the resources to leverage veteran skill sets.

Registration for the April 24 event begins at noon at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, 550 Taylor Ave, Annapolis, MD. The program starts at 1 p.m. and runs until 5 p.m. Christine Ross, President & CEO, Maryland Chamber of Commerce, will make opening remarks. Top speakers from the greater Maryland area will address crucial issues such as the array of benefits that come with hiring veterans; what civilian business professionals can learn from military ethos and mindset; success stories of businesses with programs and initiatives aimed at educating and hiring veterans; and resources and tools to assist with creating successful programs within firms.

Thank you to our sponsors, the Maryland Department of Commerce, Smartlink, Asplundh, and Alban CAT, who are helping to make this event possible.
