MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE: State Leads Delegation to Arab Health 2020, Awards 16 ExportMD Grants

Awrd

Maryland Department of Commerce issued the following announcement on Feb. 3.

The Maryland Department of Commerce this week is leading a delegation with Lt. Governor Boyd K. Rutherford and numerous Maryland companies to Arab Health 2020, one of the world’s largest healthcare exhibitions. Held in Dubai, this is the seventh year Maryland Commerce has exhibited at the trade show, promoting the state’s healthcare assets as well as a number of small and mid-size companies to a global audience.

Maryland is hosting a nearly 40 square-meter booth (approximately 430 square-feet) to demonstrate company products and services, located in Hall 1, Aisle G Booth 58. Exhibiting companies will receive display space and meeting areas within the booth, as well as matchmaking assistance through Maryland’s global office in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Last year, the conference attracted more than 55,000 attendees and representation from nearly 160 different countries.

“Attending one of the world’s top healthcare trade shows is a fantastic way to show off Maryland’s innovative companies and advanced biohealth and life sciences sector,” said Lt. Governor Rutherford. “Arab Health provides a great opportunity for our state to strengthen its relationship with some of the industry’s top leaders and decision makers from around the globe and encourage them to do business in Maryland.”

“Over the past seven years, we have helped numerous companies showcase their products and services to thousands of Arab Health attendees,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Kelly M. Schulz. “We are looking forward to seeing what this year brings while we continue promoting Maryland as the perfect destination for international companies looking to expand into North America.”

The 11 Maryland companies traveling to Arab Health this year include emocha Mobile Health Inc. (Baltimore); Get Real Health (Rockville); GraceMed Solutions, LLC (Beltsville); Health Solutions Research (HSR) (Rockville); Integrated Pharma Services (Frederick); LKC Technologies Inc. (Gaithersburg); Pevco Systems International Inc. (Middle River); Pindox Pharma Inc. (Gaithersburg); Shreis Scalene Sciences USA (Gaithersburg); Sonavi Labs, Inc. (Baltimore); and 20/20 GeneSystems, Inc. (Rockville).

LKC Technologies, a Montgomery County manufacturer of devices used to assess and manage major sight threatening diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, is using this trip overseas as an opportunity to add new customers to its distribution network in the UAE. The company is utilizing an ExportMD grant to assist with travel costs to the Middle Eastern conference.

“Our company is focused on assessing people with diabetes to aid in the detection and management of diabetic eye disease,” said James Datovech, president of LKC Technologies. “The Middle East has one of the highest amounts of diabetes in the world, therefore the impact of eye disease is higher than in other places. We’re expanding our customer base given the prevalence in this region.”

Several of the companies attending Arab Health were awarded ExportMD grants from Maryland Commerce. ExportMD grants are provided to small and mid-size companies on a monthly basis to assist with travel and marketing costs associated with international trade shows. The next application deadline for the program is February 1, 2020 and eligibility requirements can be found on our website.
