Steny Hoyer, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 5th district, has been vocal on various issues through his social media presence. His recent tweets address critical national concerns ranging from healthcare funding to federal employee rights and wage equity.

On July 8, 2025, Hoyer criticized Republican efforts regarding Medicaid, stating that "Republicans' attack on Medicaid will cause hospitals nationwide to lose $24B annually, forcing thousands of hospitals – including many in Maryland – to cut critical services." He emphasized the Democratic commitment to ensuring reliable access to healthcare for all Americans.

Later that day, Hoyer addressed actions by former President Trump and Russ Vought concerning federal government reorganization. He remarked that "Trump and Vought continue to vilify and traumatize the patriots serving our nation, unconstitutionally reorganizing the federal government." He highlighted a Supreme Court decision as significant for protecting federal employees and their essential services.

On July 10, 2025, Hoyer turned his attention to workplace equality issues faced by Black women. He stated that "Despite their academic & professional qualifications, Black women are consistently underpaid & undervalued in the workplace." He reaffirmed his dedication to supporting policies addressing racial and gender wage gaps.

Steny Hoyer was born in New York City in 1939 and currently resides in Mechanicsville. A graduate of the University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law Center, he has served in Congress since replacing Gladys Spellman in 1981 after previously serving in Maryland's state legislature.
