The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), a prominent small business advocacy group in Maryland, has expressed concerns regarding Governor Wes Moore's recent budget proposal. The statement from NFIB Maryland State Director Mike O’Halloran highlights potential challenges that the proposed tax measures could pose for small businesses in the state.

O'Halloran emphasized the crucial role small businesses play in Maryland's economy, noting their struggle with historically high business costs. He stated, “We’re concerned about the outsized impact these tax proposals may have on small businesses and our members." He further urged the Maryland General Assembly to reconsider any plans to increase taxes on these enterprises, advocating instead for policies that would enable them to reinvest in their operations.

NFIB's research underscores the burden of taxation on small businesses, identifying "federal taxes on business income" and "state taxes on business income" as among the top ten most significant issues they face.
