The Maryland Department of Labor has put forward a proposal to delay the implementation of the Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program. This proposed delay will necessitate legislative approval from the General Assembly. The department has outlined an implementation plan suggesting that payroll deductions should commence on January 1, 2027, with benefits becoming available on January 1, 2028.

In light of this proposal, the Department of Labor is halting any previously announced regulatory timelines for FAMLI. This includes processes related to applying for private plans and submitting wage and hour reports.
