Seventeen companies have already submitted applications for Gov. Larry Hogan’s More Jobs For Marylanders Act.
The program, enacted last year, offers tax incentives for manufacturing companies that create jobs in high unemployment areas. Incentives will be given for 10 years, and include income and property tax credits, exemption from SDAT corporate filing fees, and a sales tax refund.
In the first few months, Hogan said nearly 70 companies have sent letters of intent to the Department of Commerce to participate. Seventeen companies, including Alertus in Prince George’s County and Marlin Steel in Baltimore, have submitted applications totaling the creation of 450 new jobs.

Hogan plans to expand the jobs program so businesses in other industries, besides manufacturing, can also be eligible for the tax credit. While the original act covers the counties of Allegany, Baltimore, Dorchester, Prince George’s, Somerset, Washington and Worcester, and Baltimore City, the second version would include the counties of Caroline, Garrett, Kent and Wicomico.
