Maryland Department of Agriculture issued the following announcement on July 13.
Professional Fertilizer Applicator Certification Exam and Training Offered in Washington County
The Maryland Department of Agriculture and University of Maryland Extension will offer a certification exam for lawn care professionals in Western Maryland for those who want to become certified to apply fertilizer to turf. The exam will be held Thursday, August 2 at the Washington County Extension Office, 7303 Sharpsburg Pike, Boonsboro. An optional training session will be offered at 9 a.m. and the exam will be held at noon. The certification fee is $100.
Lawn care professionals hired to apply fertilizer to turfgrass are required by law to be certified or work under the direct supervision of an individual who is certified. The requirement is a primary component of Maryland’s Lawn Fertilizer Law.
