Steny Hoyer, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 5th district since 1981, has used his social media platform to criticize recent Republican legislative efforts and highlight concerns about proposed cuts to environmental and diplomatic programs.

On July 22, 2025, Hoyer posted that "Republicans' funding bill dismantles protections for our National Parks & natural resources and slashes programs that lower energy costs for Americans. Watch @AppropsDems fight against these efforts to devastate our communities and the environment."

Later that day, he reiterated his stance, stating on July 22, 2025: "Cuts to conservation & green energy projects would have a severe impact on the communities they support in every corner of the country. I urge my colleagues to stand against this environmental plan in order to preserve our air, water, & protected lands."

The following day, on July 23, 2025, Hoyer addressed concerns regarding international policy: "The Trump Admin's rollback of U.S. investments in diplomacy & foreign aid would endanger millions at home & globally. Hoyer’s comments reflect ongoing debates in Congress over funding priorities for environmental protection and foreign aid. He has served in Congress since replacing Gladys Spellman in 1981 and previously held positions in both the Maryland House of Representatives and State Senate from 1967 to 1975. Born in New York City in 1939 and currently residing in Mechanicsville, Hoyer holds degrees from the University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law Center.
