Steny Hoyer, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 5th district, recently shared his views on various topics through a series of tweets. Hoyer has been serving in Congress since 1981, following a career in the Maryland State Senate and House of Representatives.
On January 21, 2025, Hoyer criticized former President Trump for his decision to pardon approximately 1,500 individuals convicted in connection with the January 6 insurrection. In his tweet, he stated that "President Trump betrayed his promise to 'restore fair, equal, and impartial justice under the constitutional rule of law' by pardoning roughly 1,500 people convicted of crimes related to the January 6 insurrection."
The following day, on January 22, Hoyer expressed his support for federal employees. He emphasized their importance and denounced attempts to undermine them through Schedule F and similar tactics. He wrote that "Federal employees are some of our nation's most principled, talented, and hardworking people. They deserve our respect." Furthermore, he committed to standing up for these workers against harassment.
Later on January 22, Hoyer announced the opening of submissions for the 43rd Annual Congressional Art Competition. He highlighted the opportunity available to high school students in Maryland's Fifth District and expressed admiration for their artistic talents each year. His announcement read: "Proud to announce that my office is now accepting submissions for the 43rd Annual Congressional Art Competition."
