Steny Hoyer, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland's 5th district, recently shared several thoughts on social media regarding Father's Day and current legislative issues. Known for his extensive political career that began in 1981 when he succeeded Gladys Spellman, Hoyer continues to engage with his constituents on various platforms.

On June 15, 2025, Hoyer extended a heartfelt message to fathers worldwide. He stated, "To all the dads out there — your positive example has blessed your family and helped build strong children." Reflecting on his personal life, he added that being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather are his proudest titles.

The following day, June 16, 2025, Hoyer expressed concern over proposed cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by former President Trump and House Republicans. He remarked that these cuts would leave many impoverished families without support. In his tweet, he also acknowledged local efforts by saying, "I want to thank the Bowie Interfaith Pantry and Emergency Aid Fund for serving vulnerable families in MD-05."

On June 17, 2025, Hoyer participated in discussions at Calvert Health concerning Medicaid and healthcare reductions outlined in what he referred to as Congressional Republicans' "Big, Ugly Bill." He warned that this legislation could increase the deficit and jeopardize healthcare access for millions of Americans. His statement read: "This legislation will explode the deficit and jeopardize care for millions of Americans."

Steny Hoyer was born in New York City in 1939 and currently resides in Mechanicsville. A graduate of the University of Maryland with a BA and Georgetown University Law Center with a JD earned in 1966, Hoyer's career includes service in both the Maryland House of Representatives and State Senate before joining Congress.
