Steny Hoyer, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland's 5th district, shared several statements via social media regarding recent events and issues. Hoyer has been serving in Congress since 1981, succeeding Gladys Spellman. He is known for his educational background with degrees from the University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law Center.

On January 24, 2025, Hoyer expressed his appreciation for Ambassador Herzog's contributions to the US-Israel relationship during challenging times. He noted Herzog's departure as a significant loss for both nations, stating "My friend @AmbHerzog has been a strong and effective champion for our US-Israel relationship, especially during this tumultuous period. I join many others in thanking him for his years of service. His departure is a great loss for both our nations."

In another statement on January 25, 2025, Hoyer addressed the severe winter conditions affecting Maryland's 5th district. He urged residents to take precautions against the cold weather by following advice from WSSC Water News to protect their homes and water pipes. Hoyer shared additional resources and tips through a link provided in his message: "This winter has brought historically low temperatures to #MD05. I urge everyone in our region to take extra precaution & follow these tips from @WSSCWaterNews to protect their water pipes and homes."

Later that day, Hoyer commented on actions taken by President Trump's administration concerning independent inspectors general. He criticized these moves as fostering opportunities for government corruption rather than benefiting Americans' progress. His statement was encapsulated in his tweet: "President Trump's purge of the independent inspectors general is just the latest example of how the Trump Administration creates new opportunities for government corruption instead of new opportunities for Americans to get ahead."
