Steny Hoyer, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland's 5th district, recently shared his thoughts and initiatives on social media. His tweets addressed topics ranging from Holocaust remembrance to tax filing assistance and infrastructure projects.
On January 27, 2025, Hoyer marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day by emphasizing the importance of preserving Holocaust history. He stated, "80 years after the Allies liberated the Nazi concentration camps, International Holocaust Remembrance Day reminds us of our growing responsibility to preserve & share the history of the Holocaust. Antisemitism threatens not only Jews but democracy itself."
The following day, January 28, 2025, Hoyer announced the opening of Direct File for the 2024-25 tax season. He expressed gratitude towards Maryland Comptroller and Governor Wes Moore for facilitating free IRS direct filing for over 700,000 Marylanders. He encouraged constituents in his district to check their eligibility for this program by visiting a specified website: "Direct File for the 2024-25 tax season opens today. I thank @MDComptroller & @GovWesMoore for ensuring over 700,000 Marylanders can file taxes directly with the IRS for free."
Later that day, Hoyer criticized an executive order from President Biden that paused certain infrastructure projects. Leading over 150 House Democrats, he demanded transparency regarding which initiatives were affected. He stated: ".@POTUS's executive order asserted an immediate pause of infrastructure projects that are restoring communities & lowering costs for millions. I’m leading over 150 House Dems in demanding the release of a full list of frozen initiatives."
