Steny Hoyer, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland's 5th district, recently shared his thoughts on several pressing issues via social media. His posts reflect his ongoing commitment to defending civil servants and ensuring access to congressional resources for Marylanders, as well as his concerns about national leadership and public safety.
On January 30, 2025, Hoyer expressed his dedication to supporting civil servants and providing resources to Maryland residents. He stated, "I, alongside Team Maryland, will not take my eye off the ball when it comes to defending our civil servants and working to ensure Marylanders can access needed resources Congress has provided."
In another post on the same day, Hoyer criticized the Trump Administration's handling of federal grant and loan funding. He remarked that although there was a retraction of the call to shut off these funds, threats still persist. He commented on the resulting uncertainty among Americans regarding presidential leadership: "Trump’s Admin has now walked back its call to shut off federal grant and loan funding - even as they continue to threaten these funds. But one thing is clear: this chaos has left Americans with uncertainty, fear, and anxiety about the President’s ability to lead this nation."
Later that day, Hoyer addressed an incident involving a collision between an American Airlines flight and a military helicopter near Washington D.C.'s Reagan National Airport (DCA). He acknowledged the efforts of first responders involved in recovery operations and extended his condolences: "My office is closely monitoring the collision between an American Airlines flight and military helicopter near DCA last night. Thank you to the first responders who are working tirelessly on the recovery operation. My prayers are with the victims and their loved ones."
