Maryland small businesses have expressed concerns over Governor Wes Moore's proposed tax plan, as highlighted in a statement by NFIB Maryland State Director Mike O’Halloran. Following the Governor's State of the State address, O'Halloran remarked on the potential impact of the proposal on local enterprises.
“NFIB members are concerned with the Governor’s tax proposal. Small businesses would rather invest their earnings back into their business so they can grow their local economies, raise their workers’ wages, and expand their business," he stated. "Maryland’s small business owners know how to grow their businesses better than anyone else. They can’t do that in the face of higher taxes and fees.”
The NFIB’s Problems and Priorities survey indicates that state taxes on business income rank among the top 10 challenges for small businesses currently. Additionally, there is concern about a possible tax increase unless Congress enacts the Main Street Tax Certainty Act to make the Small Business Deduction permanent.
