Later that day, he expressed sorrow over the loss of Nita Lowey, an influential former congresswoman: "I was saddened to hear of the passing of female congressional trailblazer Nita Lowey..." He highlighted her pioneering role as chair of the House Appropriations Committee and her long service from 1989 to 2021.
