Governor Moore's stance against the proposed Business-to-Business (B2B) tax has been met with approval from small business advocates in Maryland. Mike O’Halloran, the State Director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), expressed gratitude for the Governor's position, highlighting its importance to local enterprises.
“It’s good to hear that small businesses’ strong opposition to this tax has reached the Governor. We’re equally thankful for his voice on this important matter," O'Halloran stated. He emphasized that there is still work to be done, noting, "Any tax that pushes Maryland further down the list of states to do business in shouldn’t be on the table in any form."
Concerns also extend to a proposed increase in personal income taxes, which could negatively affect small business owners who file as pass-through entities. O'Halloran pointed out, "Small businesses also remain concerned with a proposed increase to their personal income taxes. Such a hike would adversely impact those owners who file as pass through entities.”
In response to these potential financial burdens, NFIB has initiated a digital and radio advertising campaign opposing these tax increases. The organization urges small business owners to actively engage with legislators and advocate against what they see as detrimental policies for Main Street businesses.
