Steny Hoyer, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland's 5th district since 1981, recently shared his views on social media regarding diversity and national policies. With an extensive career in public service, including time in the Maryland House of Representatives and State Senate, Hoyer is known for his advocacy on various issues.
On March 19, 2025, Hoyer emphasized the importance of diversity in strengthening democracy. He stated, "Diversity makes us a stronger and safer democracy & we must keep working together to bend the arc of the moral universe towards justice."
In another post on the same day, Hoyer criticized former President Donald Trump’s actions related to historical narratives. He expressed concern that "Trump dishonors our nation's heroes by seeking to rewrite history by Executive Order. Our nation is stronger because of the contributions of our Black, Native American, and Japanese service members."
Later that day, Hoyer addressed Trump's impact on federal agencies and employees. He voiced apprehension about potential negative outcomes due to policy changes under Trump’s administration. According to Hoyer, "Trump's continued attacks on federal agencies and federal employees jeopardizes the effective and efficient delivery of services for the American people." Furthermore, he mentioned demanding answers regarding these cuts' scale and impact.
