The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) in Maryland has expressed concern over the state's decision to implement a new tech tax that impacts small businesses and consumers. This move by the Moore Administration, along with legislative leaders, has been met with criticism from small business advocates.

Mike O’Halloran, NFIB Maryland State Director, voiced his disappointment regarding the decision. He stated, “It’s very difficult news today if you are a small business owner in Maryland. It seems the Governor and legislative leaders may still be moving forward with plans to increase taxes on small business owners that file their tax returns as pass-through entities. They’re also going to tax their IT services, which are critical in today’s economy." He added that "small businesses are being asked again to do more with less as the state continues to struggle with its structural deficit.”

In response to this development, NFIB had previously initiated a campaign aimed at persuading Maryland lawmakers to reconsider any proposed tax increases affecting small businesses.
