Gov. Larry Hogan released three years of his tax returns last week after his opponent, Ben Jealous, released his in June.
Hogan and his wife's reported income for 2017 was $939,032. For 2016, their total income was $578,571, according to their tax return documents. On the tax forms, Yumi Hogan is listed as an artist and Larry Hogan is listed as a public servant. The couple donated nearly $220,000 over the last three years to charities, according to the documents.
While Hogan made approximately $175,000 as governor in 2017, the remainder of his income, which was more than $700,000, came from the governor's real estate business and other investments. After becoming governor, Hogan turned business operations over to trustees.
In total, the Hogans have paid more than $700,000 in federal and state income taxes, according to the returns.
Jealous, the former NAACP president who is running against Larry Hogan for governor, released his tax returns last month. Jealous' returns showed that he earned approximately $1.3 million over the last three years.
Jealous' returns also show that he earned nearly $240,000 from Kapor Capital; slightly more than $190,000 as a visiting professor with Princeton University; and approximately $34,000 from events where he was hired to speak.
Earlier this year, State Sen. Richard Madaleno released his tax returns and said that all the Democratic primary candidates should do the same. Madaleno did so because President Donald Trump had refused to release his tax returns when he was running for president.
Several others running in the primary released their returns, while two candidates, Rushern Baker and Krish Vignarajah, declined to.
There were nine individuals running for the top spot in the Democratic primary on June 26, with Jealous leading by approximately 60,000 votes.
