Baltimore City and municipalities and counties in Maryland have until Friday, Aug. 31, to apply for part of approximately $57.9 million roads grants that was announced by the governor's office earlier this month.
Grants will be awarded based on an existing Highway User Revenues (HUR) formula for distribution, Gov. Larry Hogan said in a statement. The application for the grants was released by the Maryland Department of Transportation.
Eligible local governments are required to spend the grant money in accordance with HUR rules, the application states.

The grant money is in addition to approximately $178 million in HUR that counties and towns in the state expect to receive in fiscal 2019, Hogan said.
"These grants make a difference for all Marylanders so it’s important for local jurisdictions to send in their applications," Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary Pete K. Rahn said.
