MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE: State Leads Delegation of Maryland Companies to MEDICA 2019, Awards 27 ExportMD Grants

Grants

Maryland Department of Commerce issued the following announcement on Nov. 19.

The Maryland Department of Commerce is leading a delegation of 11 Maryland companies this week to MEDICA 2019, the world’s largest medical trade show held every year in Dusseldorf, Germany. This is the 10th year that Maryland – through Commerce’s Office of International Investment and Trade – has participated in the global trade show as part of a continuing strategy to boost trade and promote the state to overseas businesses.

Maryland is hosting a 775-square-foot booth to demonstrate company products and services at the show, which attracts more than 120,000 attendees from around the world.

“With exhibitors from 60 nations and more than 120,000 attendees, MEDICA offers the perfect opportunity for Maryland companies to network with international business leaders and explore the global market,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Kelly M. Schulz. “Now in our 10th year attending this show, Maryland Commerce looks forward to continuing to promote our state as a great location for international companies to enter the U.S. marketplace.”

The Maryland companies traveling to MEDICA this year include BDRA Consulting, LLC (Damascus); BioAssay Works LLC (Ijamsville); BioElectronics Corporation (Frederick); IOB Medical Inc. (Gaithersburg); Konsyl Pharmaceuticals (Easton); MEDI+SIGN (Smithsburg); Neuroparticle Corporation (North Bethesda); PediaMetrix (Rockville); PerSon Clinic (Rockville); Sonavi Labs (Baltimore); and Tetracore Inc. (Rockville).

Maryland Commerce recently awarded a series of ExportMD grants to local companies to help them expand into the global marketplace, and several companies in the Maryland delegation are utilizing the grant to attend the German trade show.

BDRA Consulting – a Montgomery County firm that assists medical device and diagnostics companies with navigating U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations – is traveling to its first overseas conference with the help of Maryland Commerce. The consulting firm’s goal is to provide companies with a “rapid path to market” and believes MEDICA’s audience could benefit from its services in the U.S.

“Since I have never attended a trade show, I wanted to promote my business by being a part of the Maryland delegation,” said Shree Koushik, managing partner at BDRA Consulting. “My goal for MEDICA is to promote BDRA’s services to domestic and international exhibitors that may be interested in marketing their device in the USA.”

ExportMD grants are provided to small and mid-size companies on a bi-monthly basis to assist with travel and marketing costs associated with international trade shows. The next application deadline for the ExportMD program is December 1, 2019 and eligibility requirements can be found on the Commerce website.
