Teacher Tapp USA has reported that 12% of teachers feel completely burned out, while 53% are experiencing at least some symptoms of burnout. This announcement was made in a blog post on March 28.
Teacher burnout has become a significant concern in the education sector, with increasing numbers of educators reporting high levels of stress and exhaustion. According to a study by the National Education Association, 78% of teachers have considered leaving the profession due to factors such as lack of administrative support, excessive workloads, inadequate compensation, and challenging student behaviors. This trend highlights the urgent need for systemic changes to support teacher well-being and retention.
A survey conducted by the RAND Corporation revealed that 60% of public K–12 teachers reported feeling burned out, and 22% indicated difficulty coping with job-related stress. These figures have remained relatively unchanged since the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, suggesting persistent challenges in the teaching profession. The study points to the necessity for targeted interventions to address teacher stress and promote mental health.
According to Maryland Matters, a statewide poll by the Maryland State Education Association found that an overwhelming majority of Maryland teachers are facing severe burnout, with 60% considering early retirement due to pandemic-related stress and unsustainable workloads. Key concerns include staff shortages (96%), excessive workloads (92%), and burnout (91%), all contributing to a strained teaching environment.
