Steny Hoyer, a seasoned U.S. Congressman representing Maryland's 5th District since 1981, shared several updates on social media recently. His posts addressed topics ranging from Mother’s Day celebrations to historical preservation and pharmaceutical policies.

On May 11, 2025, Hoyer extended his Mother's Day greetings to mothers within Maryland's Fifth District and across the nation. In his message, he expressed gratitude for their contributions: "Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers in Maryland’s Fifth District and across the country. Thank you for all the love you give and the hard work you do for your families and our communities."

The following day, May 12, 2025, Hoyer acknowledged efforts by the National Park Service to honor those who escaped slavery through new historical site additions in Maryland. He stated: "I applaud @NatlParkService for paying tribute to those who bravely escaped slavery with 5 Maryland historical site additions to the Network to Freedom Program." He emphasized the importance of preserving history while reflecting on national progress.

Later that day, he critiqued former President Trump's approach to drug pricing compared to Democratic initiatives. Hoyer remarked: "Trump's Executive Order kindly asked pharma companies to lower prices. Democrats empowered Medicare to negotiate prices." The tweet highlighted a policy difference concerning Medicare's role in negotiating drug prices.

Steny Hoyer was born in New York City in 1939 and resides in Mechanicsville. An alumnus of both the University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law Center, he has dedicated much of his career to public service.
