Steny Hoyer, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland's 5th district since 1981, recently expressed concerns over several actions attributed to the Trump Administration through a series of tweets on May 14, 2025.

In his first tweet at 12:14 p.m., Hoyer criticized the Trump Administration for what he described as a purge of key public health agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). He urged his followers to join him and fellow Democrats in demanding explanations from Secretary Kennedy regarding cuts to critical research and access to essential services.

Later that day, at 2:44 p.m., Hoyer addressed concerns about judicial independence. He expressed disturbance over attempts to penalize judges who ruled against the Trump Administration, underscoring the importance of supporting funding for the judiciary's role in safeguarding democracy.

In another post at 3:27 p.m., Hoyer stated that under the Trump Administration, American families have become less safe and government transparency has diminished. He mentioned efforts by Democratic appropriators to seek answers from top officials of the former administration while highlighting stories of federal employees who faced wrongful treatment.

Hoyer was born in New York City in 1939 and currently resides in Mechanicsville. With a BA from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center earned in 1966, he brings extensive experience to his congressional role.
