Maryland Governor's Office of Crime Control & Prevention issued the following announcement on June 5.

More than $2 Million in State Grants Available to Protect Children from Internet Crimes

Funding to Assist Law Enforcement, Advocacy Centers

The Hogan Administration today announced that the Governor’s Office of Crime Control & Prevention has made more than $2 million available to protect Maryland children as part of the Internet Crimes Against Children grants initiative. This funding will assist child advocacy centers and law enforcement agencies in developing an effective response to online child sexual exploitation and provide agencies with support for forensic and investigative components, training and technical assistance, victim services, prevention, and community education.

“Our administration is committed to helping all victims of internet crime, particularly our children, who are the most vulnerable among us,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “We all must work together to ensure the safety and well-being of our children in an increasingly digital world, and these grants help do just that.”

Funding from Fiscal Year 2018 was distributed to eligible applicants, which include child advocacy centers, local law enforcement, and the Maryland State Police. The 2019 fiscal year award period runs from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019.

“The Hogan-Rutherford administration is committed to protecting all children from online crimes, including sexual child exploitation, and this funding will help provide resources and services that can make a real difference in their lives,” said Glenn Fueston, executive director of the Governor’s Office of Crime Control & Prevention.

The Governor’s Office of Crime Control & Prevention serves as a coordinating office that advises the governor on criminal justice strategies. The office plans, promotes, and funds efforts with government entities, private organizations, and the community to advance public policy, enhance public safety, reduce crime and juvenile delinquency, and serve victims.
