Funding has been secured for the final expansion of the Ocean City Convention Center.
The Maryland Stadium Authority will contribute $20 million, while $14 million is being contributed by Ocean City. The expansion will help better accommodate existing Convention Center clients, attract new businesses and create employment opportunities.
“I want to thank Mayor (Rick) Meehan, as well as the team at the Maryland Stadium Authority,” Gov. Larry Hogan said in a press release. “With their partnership, we are able to speed up this important project, which is expected to have an economic impact of as much as $67 million and continue creating jobs right here on the Eastern Shore.”
The expansion is expected to create up to 670 new jobs.
“This facility has long been an important economic driver for Ocean City, bringing in thousands of visitors for conferences and events like MACo and allowing local businesses to stay open and continue to hire year-round,” Hogan said.
