A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Maryland Higher Education Commission regarding the salaries of state university employees on November 14, 2024.
We at the Maryland State Wire, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, requested these records under the Maryland Public Information Act Title 4. We are seeking an electronic format list of all university employees' compensation details, including those from community colleges.
The specific fields we have asked for include the employee's name, title, university name, employment type, and compensation amount. This information is crucial for our ongoing reporting efforts focused on transparency in public institutions.
As members of the media committed to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We eagerly await a response from the Maryland Higher Education Commission as we continue our mission of delivering comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs.
