The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) has announced the appointment of Elisabeth Callihan as its new Chief Education Officer, effective September 9. Callihan will join the senior leadership team and contribute to shaping the museum's initiatives and community engagement, aligning with Asma Naeem, the museum’s Dorothy Wagner Wallis Director. The BMA is focusing on supporting artists and building connections with cultural and civic leaders as it recovers from the pandemic.

Elisabeth Callihan brings 15 years of experience in museum education and engagement. Previously, she served at the Mississippi Museum of Art as Director of Education and Director of Learning and Practice at the Center of Art and Public Exchange (CAPE). Her role involved overseeing educational programming for various audiences and reimagining interpretative materials. She has also worked at other cultural institutions such as the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Brooklyn Museum, and Memphis Brooks Museum of Art.

Anna Lincoln Whitehurst was recently appointed Senior Director of Advancement at BMA. Joining on February 5, she plays a key role in diversifying fundraising efforts. Whitehurst comes from Irvine Nature Center in Baltimore where she was Director of Development. Her background includes positions at Enterprise Community Partners and Smithsonian Institution.

“The success of the BMA is built on the strength of our team," said Naeem. "Elisabeth and Anna Lincoln are individually deeply accomplished, and I know that their experiences and expertise will well serve the BMA as we envision and enact the museum’s next chapter.”

Founded in 1914, BMA houses over 97,000 objects spanning many cultures including works by Henri Matisse. Located near Johns Hopkins University with a branch at Lexington Market, general admission is free to encourage public access to art.
