FOIA Request to Maryland State Board of Elections Regarding Spring Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Maryland State Wire have sent a request under the Maryland Public Information Act Title 4. The request was sent to the Maryland State Board of Elections for records regarding candidates running in the upcoming spring elections.
The requested records include a list of all candidates with their first, middle, and last names. We also asked for information about the office they are running for and its jurisdiction, as well as the party affiliation of each candidate.
In addition to this, we sought contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
Access to public records is essential for us at Maryland State Wire to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the Maryland State Board of Elections and will continue our efforts to provide comprehensive coverage of local governmental affairs.
