Steny Hoyer, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland's 5th district, has recently shared his perspectives on several important issues via social media. In a series of tweets, Hoyer addressed concerns about federal employee policies, highlighted the essential role of federal workers, and promoted an educational initiative in honor of Black History Month.

On February 5, 2025, Hoyer criticized a proposal from the United States Office of Personnel Management (USOPM), stating that "The 'Deferred Resignation' offer from @USOPM to federal employees is deceptive, undermines vital services for Americans, & would raise costs for taxpayers." He joined fellow legislators in questioning the legal basis of this proposed "buyout."

The following day, February 6, 2025, Hoyer emphasized the importance of federal employees in his remarks: "When you treat federal employees as villains, you turn the American people into victims. Federal employees are our heroes and are absolutely essential for America to be great." He provided further commentary through a linked full statement.

Later that day, he announced an educational initiative related to Black History Month. On February 6, 2025, he tweeted about hosting a competition: "In honor of Black History Month, my office is hosting the #MD05 Black History Month 2025 Essay Competition. I invite all eligible high school students to participate." Additional details regarding participation were made available through a link included in his post.
